Major Fleet-Wide Fuel Efficiency Agreement Signals Ongoing Focus on Decarbonisation

Kristotrans Insights
September 2026

Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has signed a four-year supply agreement with fuel technology provider Sulnox, expanding the use of its fuel-performance additive from around 30 vessels to more than 50 across EPS's container ship, tanker, bulker, and vehicle carrier fleets. The rollout follows more than two years of testing and validation across different vessel types.

Agreements like this are a useful signal of where the shipping industry's decarbonisation efforts are actually heading in practice, as distinct from headline commitments. Fuel efficiency technology that has been tested long enough to justify a multi-year, fleet-wide commitment tends to reflect a genuine operational bet rather than a one-off pilot for public relations purposes.

For shippers, the direct impact of any single supplier agreement like this is limited — but the broader trend is worth tracking. Carriers are under increasing pressure, both regulatory and commercial, to demonstrate credible progress on emissions, and that pressure increasingly flows through to how they report performance to their customers.

Businesses that are being asked by their own customers or regulators to report on supply chain emissions should expect their carriers and forwarders to be able to provide more granular fuel and emissions data over the next few years, as agreements like this one become more common across the industry.

It's a space worth watching rather than acting on immediately — but one where the direction of travel is becoming clearer with each new fleet-wide commitment.
